Quote:

Your Comrade, a Soldier and General-in-Cheif is Counting on you, Brave Brothers in Arms... He was born in a climate and among men for Whom Liberty also had Charms Who fought for it first. Sincere Lover of Liberty And Equality, Convinced that All Free men are equals, He will be proud to march out before you to aid you in your effort, and the coalition of tyrants will learn they are loathed equally by men of all colors-General Alexander Dumas

Many know Alexander Dumas The famous Author.

However many do not know of His father

General Thomas Alexandre Dumas (1762-1806), (He prefured to be addressed as Alex Dumas),

(Also known as The Black Count)

the first black general in French history and remains the highest-ranking person of color of all time in a continental European army.

The true story of Alex Dumas was itself ruthlessly suppressed by his greatest enemy (Napoleon)—and remained buried for 200 years. In fact, Dumas became not merely a great soldier of the French Revolution but also the highest-ranking black leader in a modern white society before our own time—by the age of 32 he was appointed commander-in-chief of the French army in the Alps, the equivalent of a four-star general. The young general from the tropics led 53,000 men in fierce glacier fighting against the best alpine troops in the world and captured the mountain range for France. (Not content with overthrowing their own rulers, the French revolutionaries had declared a “war of liberation” on all their neighbors.) And though the Austrians nicknamed him der schwarze Teufel—“the Black Devil”—he was an angel to victims of oppression, no matter their side: in the midst of the Revolution’s bloody chaos, he pushed back against those committing terror, earning the mocking nickname “Mr. Humanity” and narrowly escaping the guillotine himself. (this actually surprised many of his enemies and the civilians in the towns he was occupying. )

The Reason he did escape the Guillotine was due to the fact the Commissioner assigned to his unit knew that if Dumas went to the Guillotine, He would be following his footsteps, He also liked General Dumas, and knew he was doing the best he could with the situation at hand so The Commissioner used his Zeal and Radical influence to point the blame of the delay in another direction claiming that the war ministry was infiltrated by the counter revolutionaries to keep them occupied in Paris. while General Dumas worked a way to bring the victory the Committee was demanding day after day after despite the hazardous winter, mountain conditions. The Fortress they were trying to capture set on top of a mountain on a glaicier seemly impossible odds at the time.

The best part is He did bring the victory they desired, and this what they said in honor of his Efforts.

"Glory To the Conquerors of Mont Cenis of Mont Saint Bernard.

Glory to the Invincible Army of the Alps and to the Representatives who have guided it on the road to victory!

We cannot Tell you my dear colleagues of the enthusiasm that has been created here as a result of the news you have announced We place Great confidence in the energy and talents of the brave General Dumas. "
